• THE OLD YOU •

Recently I was reminded of some things that I really love, yet no longer do or necessarily make the time for.

When you become a Mum your whole world changes. I cherish my role as a mother and absolutely adore my little munchkins, yet I still have days where I feel a sense of loss or longing to do the things or have the energy that my pre-kid self did.

My little babes are my world now and I could not imagine my life without them, but I also feel it’s okay (and hopefully normal 🤷‍♀️😂) to feel this way from time to time.

Here’s to trying to make more time do some of the things that pre-kid Brooke loved to. Let this be a little prompt for you to do the same.

• LABELS •

When it comes to labeling food; your pantry staples - sure thing. However when it comes to nutrition choices, diets or protocols it seems that everything has a label; keto, paleo, raw, low carb high fat, sugar free, diary free, gluten free, vegan, atkins and so so many more!

Often there are reasons why we need to eat a certain way or include/ avoid certain, which is fine. Other times it’s simply because we feel the need to label the way we eat. You may even feel embarrassed or even silly if you aren’t aware of or haven’t tried the latest fad.

Don’t feel bad if you don’t have a ‘label’ for the way or what you eat. These days we can get so caught up in fitting our food habits into a specific box. These ‘boxes’ then just create anxiety around and can lead to unhealthy relationships with food because you ‘can’t have that’, ‘it’s not on the list’ or ‘that doesn’t fit with my diet/way of eating’. Sure there’s going to be foods that you limit, avoid or include a heap of for whatever reason, or try different ways of eating from time to time. That’s what’s so great about having the freedom and luxury to make these choices.

Regardless of how or what you choose to eat, be sure to understand both WHY you’re eating that way (and not just to keep up with the latest trend) and that it’s NOURISHING your body. Hey, I’m also for making sure there’s some science thrown in there too.

• BETTER TOGETHER •

This week I’ve been focusing on my mindset after being determined to not feel flat all February. I’ve been trying to focus more on the growth side of things rather than fixed and be more mindful of my self talk, for example:
•Fixed/negative state: I’m so tired, it’s too hot to get outside.
•Growth/positive state: the kids are up early enough to beat the heat. Let’s get outdoors for some fresh air and gentle movement.

We’re all that much happier for having got outside and moving in some shape or form this morning. Just changing the way you speak to yourself and your mindset slightly can have BIG positive effects team!

• MOVEMENTS •

There are SO many ways to move! Walking, running, sports, swimming, supping, cycling - the list is endless! As is the list of movements: push ups, squats, sit ups, presses etc.

When it comes to training, my most favorite movements would have to be lunges and squats.

When it comes to ways to move - I love almost anything! It’s funny how my training changes through my different life stages. Athletics and netball used to be my jam. I loved the 200m, 400m, long and triple jump. As a kid I actually wanted to go to the Olympics for this 🏃‍♀️. I also used to love instructing @lesmills Body Attack; followed by gym programs, training for fitness comps and then to CrossFit; generally anything high intensity.

Post natally I’m digging walking and easing my way back into some weighted movements, CrossFit and gradually upping the intensity.

However I move, I love to keep it varied, get outdoors and do unstructured exercise wherever I can... you can beat a good hill trek, beach walk or surf sesh!
